As the world watches U.S. politicians struggling to negotiate on the so called “Fiscal Cliff” issue, the following narrative by U.S. mediator Robert Benjamin is interesting to read after first reading the Washington Post article he references. He effectively makes the point that we can’t expect rational negotiations that ‘follow the book’ from human beings but rather we should expect the full range of human emotions and tactics to play themselves out in the course of negotiations.
